Description A coin of the first casting of the ninth year of the Konin Era (818), this is one of what’s known as the twelve bronze coinages cast during the Nara and Heian periods. It’s thought that during the seventeen years between 818 and 834, the first year of the Jowa Era, there were around 100,000 coins cast at the foundry in Nagato (now, Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi prefecture). These Fuju-shinpo coins were made in large (diameter of 2.5cms) and small (diameter 2.2 cms) sizes. This is a small one.
