This is a document containing orders by the Muromachi Shogunate to carry out the construction of the shrine buildings of Munakata Shrine without delay. The bulk of the construction costs were to be shouldered by Munakata Shrine itself, but this means that they had received the seal of approval of the Shogunate for the construction. The existing main shrine is a 1578 reconstruction of the main shrine which was destroyed in a fire in 1557, but the main shrine that was destroyed is thought to be the one referred to in the order for construction here. |
