Overview |
In days past, locals in the Munakata area practiced a custom called “Okinoshima Gomorii,” distance worship of Okinoshima Island to pray for an abundant harvest or household peace and prosperity. In the town of Shiohama, where Okinoshima Island is visible from the beach at Shiraishi, it’s said that families gathered atop embankments and spread a mat to make offerings for “Okinoshima Gomori.” |
