Overview |
The property comprises three archaeological sites around 1600 on the islands of Efate, Lelepa and Artok (Retoka), associated with the life and death of the paramount chief, Roi Mata. It includes Roi Mata's residence, the site of his death, Fels Cave, and his mass burial site, the deserted island of Artok. The oral traditions surrounding Roi Mata and the moral values he espoused to amicably resolve conflicts between tribes are even today handed down to the people of the region. |
