Overview |
Kamishima, an island connecting the Shima and Atsumi peninsulas at the mouth of Ise Bay, is situated in a dangerous sea area with fast tidal currents and many hidden reefs. The ritual artifacts kept as votive objects at the Yatsushiro Shrine are categorized into those of about the 6th century, 8th to 9th centuries, and from the 10th century onward, but their historical trails are unknown. The background to the rituals is assumed to be related to the Yamato court and Ise Jingu. |
