The property consists of Buddhist cultural assets located in the eastern outskirts of Gyeongju, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Silla. Seokguram Grotto is a stone temple established in the 8th century on Mount Toham, a sacred Buddhist mountain, and is considered a masterpiece of Buddhist art in the Far East. The Temple of Bulguksa located at the foot of the mountain was first built in 530 CE and later in 752 CE, and is an outstanding example of Buddhist religious culture that flourished underthe Silla kingdom. |
