Overview |
The property extends in a landscape in southern Laos on the border of Thailand and Cambodia. Vat Phou is a Hindu temple with exquisite brick and stone sculptures built at the base of Phu Kao mountain during the Khmer Empire which dominated the region in the 10th to 14th centuries. In the area, there are remains of associated temples and the ruins of ancient urban settlements in the 3rd to 13th centuries. Vat Phou has gathered people's faith as a "holy place" from ancient times, along with the sacred mountain Phu Kao, which presents a unique natural landscape with the natural formation of a giant rock standing upright on top. |
