Overview |
The property is a Cultural and Natural Heritage Site that consists of a linear cluster of small islands and atolls, roughly 250 km to the northwest of the main Hawaiian Islands and extending over some 1931 km. Nihoa Island and Mokumanamana Island are sacred places for Native Hawaiians, where it is believed that life originates and to where the spirits return after death. There are remains of ritual sites. Two islands have deep cosmological and traditional significance for living Native Hawaiian culture. |
