Overview |
Kizhi is an island in Lake Onega located about 350 km northeast of Saint Petersburg. The name "Kizhi" is an aboriginal word meaning "place for rituals." The whole island including the Russian Orthodox churches of the 18th century has been designated as the protected zone of wooden architecture. |
