沖ノ島祭祀の始まりは４世紀後半と想定される。この時期、高句麗の南下による朝鮮半島の情勢緊迫化にともない、百済を援けるため朝鮮半島へ出兵することになった倭国、即ちヤマト王権が航海の安全を願って行ったものであろう。これを契機に、多くの渡来人が優れた技術や文物を倭国に伝え、文明化を促す。このヤマト王権による新しい倭・韓交渉に宗像の勢力が大きな役割を果たしたことは、５世紀後半から６世紀における津屋崎古墳群の発展からも疑いない。 |
