Description |
A miniature gilt bronze loom is said to have been discovered at Okinoshima site 4. Judging by its structure, this is a backstrap loom that has a loom pedal, where the opening of the warp is operated by foot. It’s extremely meticulously constructed, including almost all of the parts, and when assembled it can actually be used to weave. It’s incredibly valuable as the oldest existing record of the appearance of an ancient loom, just as it was. It is thought to have been left as an offering under national religious rituals according to ritsuryō system
