Description |
Made of wood, expressing a soft broad smile, it has lost the hair that was transplanted for the eyebrows and beard, but it remains a fine example that records the ancient style. It’s been said that in the Muromachi period, during the time of Munakata Daigûji Okuji, it floated up from the ocean of Kanezaki, and found its way to the main hall as a treasured item of the temple. The man mask is one of the patterns of Noh mask, like in "Okina" or "Shikisanba" the old man, as the main character (shite) would wear it. |
