Description |
Said to be the oldest armor and helmet existing in Kyushu, and oral tradition has it that it was dedicated to Munakata Shine by Ashikaga Takauji. Takauji had risen in revolt against Emperor Go-Daigo and had been routed, fleeing once to Kyushu, but rallied after a victory at the Battle of Tatarahama at Hakozaki in Chikuzen in 1336, then entered the capital and established the Muromachi Shogunate. The armor and helmet was said to have been given with regard to the distinguished services of Munakata Daigûji Ujinori during the Battle of Tatarahama, but is thought to actually have been made during the Muromachi period. |
