| Overview |
On the western slope of the 171 meter high Mt. Haku in Odake, Wakamatsu-ku, in the city of Kitakyushu, there’s a flat area about 100m above-ground. Now it’s overgrown with trees, but there’s a small stone shrine with small round holes opened in it. It’s said that through the hole, people glimpsed Okinoshima Island, a full 70 kilometers away.
The small stone shrine was erected in 1866, with a listing in the Ongagun-shi as re-established in August of Year 2 of the Keio Era, which means that even before then, at this site that looks out on the Hibiki Sea, there was a special worship place for Nakatsu-miya. |
